In this video, Dan Glass, author of Queer Footprints: A Guide to Uncovering London’s Fierce History, meets up with Mike Jackson from Lesbians and Gays Support the Miners (LGSM) to take the viewer on a guided tour of King’s Cross.
From Housmans and Gay’s The Word Bookshops to Central Station (formerly the Prince Albert) and the Big Chill (formerly the Bell), Mike shares stories from his time volunteering at London Gay Switchboard, fundraising with LGSM, partying with friends at alternative gay bars, and dealing with homophobic – and police – street harassment.
Find out more about the King’s Cross area’s incredible LGBT history in Queer Footprints, which is out now from Pluto Press.
Special thanks to Mike Jackson, Big Chill King’s Cross, Housmans Bookshop and Gay’s the Word Bookshop.
