In this video, Dan Glass, author of Queer Footprints: A Guide to Uncovering London’s Fierce History, meets up with Andria Mordaunt to take the viewer on a guided tour around London’s iconic Trafalgar Square.
Andria shares stories from the 1980s and 1990s, when she took action to stop the closure of the Broderip Ward – the first ward dedicated to the care and treatment of people affected by HIV/AIDS in Britain – as well as stunts with ACT UP (AIDS Coalition to Unleash Power) which saw Nelson’s Column covered by a giant condom. Dan and Andria take a stroll down to Heaven – London’s pioneering LGBTQIA+ nightclub.
Find out more about Trafalgar Square’s incredible LGBT history in Queer Footprints, which is out now from Pluto Press.
Special thanks to Andria Mordaunt.
