This webinar book launch features Ralph Wilson and Isaac Kamola discuss their newly published book, ‘Free Speech and Koch Money: Manufacturing a Campus Culture War’ (Pluto Press, November 2021).
This book demonstrates how anti-democratic activists have capitalized on liberal values of free speech and tolerance for diverse ideas to promote free market fundamentalism on college campuses. Between 2005 and 2017, the Koch network invested $256 million into cash-strapped private and public colleges and universities in order to influence curricula, faculty hires, and student interest towards activities and an ideology that serve plutocracy more so than democracy.
Ralph Wilson is co-founder and research director of the Corporate Genome Project in Tallahassee, Florida. As former co-founder/re- search director of ‘UnKoch My Campus’, he helped develop a resistance movement against corporate donor influence on college campuses.
Isaac Kamola is Associate Professor of Political Science at Trinity College, Hartford, CT, and President of his college’s chapter of the American Association of University Professors (AAUP). He has written on dark money in higher education in the Journal of Academic Freedom.
