New York launch for Paolo's new book
From DSA to the Corbyn-led Labour Party to Podemos, today’s left-wing political formations make extensive use of online participatory platforms to include members in decision-making. In his new book The Digital Party: Political Organization and Online Democracy, Paolo Gerbaudo looks at parties and political organizations in the age of social media and asks how these formations differ from the socialist and communist parties of the past.
Join us for a discussion of the reasons behind the rise of digital parties, and how these formations can fulfill their promise and avoid the depressing fate of their predecessors.
Paolo Gerbaudo is the Director of the Centre for Digital Culture at King’s College London. He is the author of Tweets and the Streets (2012), and The Mask and the Flag (2017).
