Richmond Literature Festival, London (UK)
One of Britain’s most important political artists, Peter Kennard has spent 50 years creating uncompromising and hard-hitting protest art.
In this new anthology he introduces some of his most iconic work, from Constable’s Haywain with cruise missiles, to Tony Blair’s Iraq War selfie, exhibiting his fight against war, nuclear armament and the corruption of business.
Tonight, in conversation with. Tim Corum, Arts Service Manager for Richmond, Kennard will recollect some of the history of the social movements, protests and activism depicted, as well as giving details on the genesis of the images and the techniques employed.
Peter Kennard is the Professor of Political Art at the Royal College of Art and the author of Images for End of Century: Photomontages. He has also contributed his work to numerous publications, magazines and news stories.
