Nijjor Manush will be joined by Ilyas Nagdee and Azfar Shafi for a launch event and discussion of their new book Race to the Bottom: Reclaiming Antiracism , published by Pluto Press.
Race to the Bottom charts the emergence of radical political movements as part of Britain’s Black Power era, and their subsequent dismantlement and co-option following the historic uprisings of 1981.
It details why, despite such powerful traditions of Black and Asian political organising in living memory, it is difficult to develop radical, independent antiracist organising in Britain today, why antiracist upsurges so often find themselves diverted back into questions of ‘unconscious bias’, or ‘representation’ – and what lessons we can take from these histories.
The event will include a reading from the book, a discussion and a Q&A.
Tickets are free but any donations will go towards the fundraiser for legal fees for the Save Brick Lane campaign.
