A popular introduction to Marxism.
The great strength of this book lies in the solidity of its structure. Without pretending that in 200 pages all problems can be plumbed to their depths, this structure permits Mandel to give straight answers on an amazingly wide range of topics.
Ernest Mandel (1923-95) was a Marxist theorist and prolific writer, among whose 30 published books include Marxist Economic Theory and Power and Money: A Marxist Theory of Bureaucracy. Banned in a number of countries he worked closely with Che Guevara and advocated for the rehabilitation of political figures liquidated in the Moscow show trials of the 1930s.
'A beautiful book ... it is a particular delight when someone writes simply, clearly and briefly about topics on which they have worked much and thought deeply' - Spokesman
