The Law and Theory Lab at the Westminster School of Law invites you to a lively discussion by an exciting and diverse panel of speakers from social movements, legal profession and rights scholars to celebrate the launch of What’s Wrong With Rights by Radha D’Souza.
Nicholas Hildyard is a founder and Director of The Corner House, a U.K. research and advocacy group focusing on human rights, the environment, and development. The Corner House has successfully challenged UK’s decisions favouring corporate giants like BAE systems and BP.
Rhona Friedman is a criminal defence lawyer who has defended complex cases. She is co-founder of Commons a not-for-profit legal practice committed to social justice. Rhona was named Times Lawyer of the Week for representing Samantha Orobator whose release from death row in Laos was secured by the legal charity Reprieve.
Joseph Hoover teaches Political Theory at Queen Mary University of London and a fellow at the Käte Hamburger Kolleg / Centre for Global Cooperation Research in Duisburg, Germany. Joe’s research includes human rights, justice and global cities, global ethics, pragmatism and agonistic pluralism. His most recent book is Reconstructing Human Rights (Oxford University Press, 2016). The discussion will be chaired by Thomas Jeff Miely from the University of Cambridge.
